Trinidad History Museum
General Information
The Trinidad History Museum complex is open every day, including weekends and holidays,
from May 1September 30. (From October 1April 30, please call the museum in advance for hours.).
Groups are welcome and event rentals are available. Call (719) 846-7217.
Information Center
The Information Center has brochures about the area's six other museums, the Santa Fe National Historic Trail,
the Scenic Highway of Legends, other local attractions, and special events.
There is also information about lodging, dining, and shopping.
The Information Center is open daily, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Location
Trinidad is conveniently located on I-25, just 200 miles from both Denver and Santa Fe.
Southbound Traffic:
take Exit #15 (Kit Carson Trail); head east until you reach Highways 160/350;
turn right at the stop sign; the museum is 11.2 miles from the intersection, on your left.
Northbound Traffic:
take Exit #13-B (Main Street) and go straight; the museum is 1.2 mile from the yield sign
at the bottom of the exit ramp. The museum complex is on your right, at 300 East Main,
across from the post office.

On-street parking is available throughout the area.

Children (Ages 6-12): $3.00
Children (Under 6): Free
Colorado Historical Society members: Free
Hours
May 1 through September 30, the complex is open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily, including weekends and
holidays. The last house begins at 4 p.m.
October 1 through April 30, please call in advance for hours. Durign the winter season,
the Santa Fe Trail Museum is open Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Rental Information
The gardens surrounding the 1882 Bloom Mansion are available for weddings, receptions and

Louden-Henritze Archaeology Museum

The Louden-Henritze Archaeology Museum offers visitors a glimpse at millions of years
of southern Colorado and northern New Mexico history.
Artifacts from local archaeological excavations revel the lifestyles of prehistoric people.
Arrowheads, tools, and pottery found by area residents are also on exhibit.
The gift shop carries the trail map of the Trinidad Quadrangle.Free Admission

A.R. Mitchell Memorial Museum and Gallery

The Mitchell collection is housed in an early 1900s western-style building of over 40,000 square feet. The building has the original tin ceiling, wood floors, and horseshoe-shaped mezzanine where featured artist exhibit their works and major traveling exhibits are displayed. Each year the Mitchell hosts a national exhibit of works by artists from across the country.An extraordinary collection of Spanish colonial folk art is on display. This diverse collection includes devotional works, decorative items and furniture. Featured are bultos, retablos, and tin work created in the 1800s and early 1900s by now famous santeros. An elk hide painting, believed to have been painted by Franciscan monks, dates to the early 1700s and serves as the center piece for the exhibit. Numerous Penitente artifacts and religious images are in the remarkable collection.The museum also houses a historic collection of photographs by O.E. Aultman, Benjamin Wittick, and Almerod Newman. Currently on display is a collection of cameras from the 1900s to the present, an exhibit of panoramic photographs that span 100 years of historic buildings.
The main floor features a selection from the museum's permanent collection of over 350 original paintings by acclaimed western artist and illustrator Arthur Roy Mitchell and his contemporaries. The museum Gift Shop and Fine Art Gallery is open year-round and carries giclee prints of paintings in the museum as well as original works by local artists and artisans.Admission Charges

The Children's Museum is a exciting, hands-on adventure into Trinidad's past. Adults as well as children delight in exploring Old Fire House No. 1, built around 1889. Visitors may sound the fire alarm and climb aboard the old red fire truck.They may blow the whistle of the model train as it winds around mountains, past villages and coal mines. In the basement, visitors explore Trinidad's not so accommodating original jail cells. Upstairs, a replica of an early 1900s classroom and vintage kitchen evoke memories and stimulate the imagination. Kids love the dress-up area.
Through the exhibits and activities in the Children's Museum, history comes to life! Free Admission
