Cuchara, Colorado is situated on the eastern slopes of the Culebra Range of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains at the top of the Cucharas Valley. The town is surrounded by the San Isabel National Forest, seconds from Cuchara Ski Resort, minutes from Blue Lake , Bear Lake, and Monument and North Lakes are a scenic drive away. The Cuchara River flows through the middle of town where beautiful B&B's sit.

  As you crest the top of Cuchara Pass ( 11,248") you have two choices on how to proceed. You may head east along County road 46/Forest Road 415 to Cordova Pass. You will come across a scenic overlook where the wildflowers are beautiful in early spring and the Aspens give a color show in the Fall. From there you will proceed to Cordova Pass (11,248") and pass Apishapa Arch and slowly descend to Gulnare and then Aguilar and then I-25. If you continue south out of Cuchara Pass on Highway 12, the Scenic Highway of Legends, you will find the entrance to the national Forest and Blue and Bear Lakes . The Highway then winds down into the scenic town of Cuchara
